Mission
The mission of the XXYY Project is to build the capacity of parents and service providers to assist males with XXYY in leading purposeful, productive lives.
History
The XXYY Project is an evolutionary outgrowth of the XXYY Parent Network, an informal association of parents, founded in 1998, now with over 180 member families, whose goals are public education and advocacy, expanding the body of knowledge about the syndrome, and providing a safety net and support for parents and the affected males. The XXYY Project became a project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (CNDC), an incubator for nonprofit organizations, in October 2003. The project is headed by a group of parents and advisors.
Goals
The Project serves principally as advocate, facilitator and enabler to motivate and empower professionals and experts to conduct research, compile and distribute knowledge, provide services, and create systems to support these boys and men. The primary goals of the XXYY Project are to develop:
- Effective treatment modalities in the all areas of general medicine, and physical, occupational and speech therapies;
- Standardized Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.’s) proven effective in addressing the disabilities of males with XXYY;
- XXYY specific employment, independent living and community plans;
- Long-term parent capacity-building support systems.
Services & Activities
The XXYY Project provides an Internet support group for parents, sponsors an annual XXYY Symposium, obtains funding for medical research, develops resources for families, and helps families in need of advice and support. Future plans include the development of a clinic and adult services.
